SPRING IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER.......RIGHT???

GREETINGS FELLOW ATHLETES

As the days start getting longer, that can only mean one thing…..  baseball season is around the corner and we are excited for another season of Executive League fast pitch.  This email contains a lot of information; please read it in its entirety.  We want to provide as much information as possible so players can make a speedy decision to register.

The Executive issued an open invitation to all players via the team reps for a meeting last November to provide input and suggestions as to the direction of the league going forward.  Attendance was underwhelming however some creative suggestions were put forth, some of which will be adopted in the 2012 season.  Further, we are pleased to announce the addition of 3 new members to the Executive.  Joining returning Executive members Irwin Tobias and Stephen Lidsky will be Roy Levine, Cliff Posel and Steve Sheffer.  We thank them for volunteering their time and for their commitment to helping ensure that the Executive League will remain vibrant for years to come.  We are encouraging everyone to actively recruit new players to the league - specifically pitchers - since the future health of the league depends on our ability to continually attract new players.

Following is a summary of the changes that will be implemented in the 2012 season:

•  There will be a modified draft , with teams able to protect up to 8 players from their last season's roster and draft the balance of the roster from a draft pool of unprotected players and new players to the league

•  Roster sizes will be capped at 14 players, though team reps may choose to carry 13 players on their roster at their option.  Those teams carrying 14 on their roster may utilize a DH in games where all 14 players are in attendance.

•  Any players wishing to switch teams, players not protected  and all new players to the league will be placed in a draft pool

•  The deadline for ALL applications is March 15, 2012; no applications will be accepted after that time.  The Executive reserves the right to accept late applications to the league by players, especially pitchers.   Pitching is at a premium in our league and we will make every effort to accommodate new pitchers into the league.

•  The draft will be held March 25, 2012 and all players will be notified immediately thereafter whether they have been placed on a team or not selected

•  Any players not selected in the draft may add their name to a waiting list if a roster spot becomes available due to injury, attrition, etc.  The Executive may adjust team strength prior to the beginning of the season by trading pitchers if necessary.  New pitchers may also be assigned to teams by the Executive using its best judgement, to ensure a competitive balance.

•  The Executive will makes trades if necessary to balance the rosters after teams have played between 6 and 10 games.  Any player refusing a trade will not be permitted to play.

Full details of the draft process are as follows:

Each team may protect up to 8 players (including the team rep).  Any team who protects less than 8 players will draft from the available player pool in the order described below until they have 8 players on their roster.  Once all teams have 8 players on their roster, in the order below they will draft players until their rosters contain either 13 or 14 players.

•  Draft order will be based on the final regular season standings from the previous season with the last place team drafting first. The first place team will be the final pick of the first round and the first pick of the second round and so on.

•  Teams must submit their protected player lists by March 19, 2012 at which point these lists, as well as the list of available players in the draft pool, will be made available (confidentially) to other team reps.   Teams may protect up to 2 pitchers only - any other pitchers may not be protected as a position player, but must be made available in the draft pool.

•  The draft will continue round by round until all players are drafted or rosters are full.

•  There will be no special draft provisions for family members, friends or car pools.

•  Players who have been absent from the League for one year will be permitted to be protected by their previous team, however the team can still only protect 8 players.

•  Should one of the previous year's teams dissolve, the Executive may form the core of a new team from new players who register as a group.  Draft order for any new teams to the League will be determined by the Executive.

•  Once the draft is done, team reps will be able to trade amongst themselves to accommodate personal requests from their players.  All trades must be approved by the Executive.

As was the case in 2011, enrolment and payment will be done electronically only.   There were some people who emailed applications directly to Irwin in past seasons.  Please note that this will not be available this season and everyone must register electronically.  Please ensure that you register as soon as possible and definitely before March 15, 2012 at which point registration will be closed.

Registration will open within the next week.

A separate email will follow with instructions on how to register, once it is open.

The fee for 2012 is $350.  Applications received by February 29, 2012 will receive a $25 discount (i.e. the fee is $325).  Those players not selected to a roster will be refunded their entry fee in full.  Those players who decide not to play for personal reasons (i.e. not playing with friends, don't like the team that drafted them) after being selected in the draft will forfeit their entry fee for the season.

If you have any friends, or know if anyone that want to come into the league next year, please have them contact us or forward them this email .
